Abstract
Abstract: To ensure the rail transportations safety, evaluation of fatigue behavior of the rail steel
is necessary. High cycle fatigue behaviour of a rail steel was the subject of investigation in this
research using fracture mechanics. Finite element method (FEM) was used for analyzing the
distribution of the stresses on the rail, exerted by the external load. FEM analysis showed that the
maximum longitudinal stresses occurred on the railhead. To find out about the relation of crack
growth with its critical size, and to estimate its lifetime, the behaviour of transverse cracks to rail
direction was studied using damage tolerance concept. It revealed that transverse crack growth
initially occurred slowly, but it accelerated once the crack size became larger. Residual service
life was calculated for defective segments of the rails. In addition, allowable crack size for
different non-destructive testing intervals was determined the allowable crack size decreased as
the NDT intervals increased.

Abstract
The effects of lower bainite volume fraction on tensile and impact properties of D6AC ultrahigh strength steel were studied in the current work. To obtain mixed microstructures containing martensite and different volume fractions of the lower bainite, specimens were austenitized at 910° C, then quenched in a salt bath of 330°C for different holding times, finally quenched in oil. In order to obtain fully martensitic and bainitic microstructures, direct oil quenching and isothermal transformation heat treatment for 24 hours were used respectively. All specimens were double tempered at 200°C for 2 hours per tempered. Microstructures were examined by optical and scanning electron microscopes. Fracture morphologies were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results showed that both yield and ultimate tensile strength generally decreased with an increase in volume fraction of lower bainite. However, a few exceptions were observed in the mixed microstructures containing 12% lower bainite, showing a higher strength than the fully martensitic microstructure. This can be explained on the basis of two factors. The first is an increase in the strength of martensite due to the partitioning of the prior austenite grains by lower bainite resulting in the refinement of martensite substructures. The second is a plastic constraint effect leading to an enhanced strength of lower bainite by the surrounding relatively rigid martensite. Charpy V-notch impact energy and ductility is improved with increasing the volume fraction of lower bainite.

Abstract
In this research, using impregnation method, spinel cobalt and copper ferrites nanoparticles are synthesized on the surface of hematite. Synthesized powders were characterized and examined by FTIR, XRF, XRD, FESEM, BET and EDS analysis and the dye degradation were investigated by UV-vis and AAS methods. Specific surface area increased especially in the sample containing cobalt, which indicates the precise of synthesis and the creation of high surface nano particles at hematite surface. The size of particles was in the nano scale and a good uniformity observed in the structure. The results indicated a significant increase in the catalytic ability of hematite nano composite after synthesis. Their catalytic capability investigated by the Fenton reaction with complete removal of methylene blue from the solution via UV-vis irradiation. The samples stability discovered to be excellent by the AAS method.

Abstract
The main purpose of this investigation is to assess the effect of post-deposition annealing treatment on the electrochemical behavior of TiN coating developed on AISI 304 stainless steel substrate using cathodic arc evaporation physical vapor deposition (CAE-PVD). Post-annealing treatment at 400 ºC was performed on the coated substrate for 1 h. The studied samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. The preferred orientation of TiN (111) was identified by XRD patterns and the crystallinity of the coating increased after annealing treatment. SEM observations indicated that TiN coatings free of cracks were successfully developed on the substrate. The electrochemical measurements elucidated that the annealed coating had better corrosion resistance compared to that of the as-deposited coating with a lower current corrosion density. This investigation implied that improved corrosion performance of the TiN coating can achieved by performing post-deposition annealing treatment.

Abstract
In this study, aluminum matrix composites reinforced with Al2O3 and SiC nanoparticles, and graphene nanoplatelets produced by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) were studied. The microstructural and mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated by changing the amounts of the reinforcing materials. The SEM images showed that the reinforcing particles were more distributed in the grain boundary regions. According to the results, the addition of alumina and SiC to the matrix caused an increase in the composite density whereas the composite density decreased by adding graphene nanoplatelets. The highest relative density of 96.3% was obtained for the composite containing 2 wt% Al2O3. The presence of the reinforcing particles increased the hardness of all the samples compared to the pure aluminum (39 HV). The composite containing 1 wt.% Al2O3, 0.7 wt.% SiC, and 0.3 wt.% graphene showed the highest hardness of 79 HV. Moreover, the plastic deformation of the specimens decreased and the slope of the plastic region increased by adding the reinforcing particles to the matrix.

Abstract
In this study, CrN/ZrN multilayer nanostructured coatings with different bilayers (10, 20, and 30) were created by the cathodic arc evaporation. The electrochemical behavior of samples was evaluated by polarization and impedance spectroscopy tests in the Ringer medium and the pin on disk test was used to investigate the tribological behavior of the samples. The results of measurements showed that the electrochemical and tribological behavior of the coatings depends on the number of bilayers and by rising the number of bilayers, the coating shows higher corrosion resistance and better tribological performance. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images of the specimens after exposure to the corrosion medium showed that the number of surface cavities were formed by the coating that had the highest number of bilayers comparing with other coatings were quite fewer in number and smaller in diameter. The results of the pin on disk test showed that by increasing the number of bilayers from 10 to 30, the coefficient of friction and wear rate decreased and the 30L coating showed better wear resistance.

Abstract
Background: Superhydrophobic materials which have contact angle higher than 150°, considering their widespread applications, are very important for researchers.
Method: In this research, silica nanopowder was synthesized successfully using inexpensive sodium silicate source and very simple and facile method. Synthesis of hydrophobic solution was carried out by sol-gel method. The surface modification of silica nanopowder was performed using different silane/siloxane polymers and was deposited on glass slides. For characterization of the samples XRD, FESEM, EDX, TEM, FTIR, and Raman analysis were used.
Results: The XRD result shows a very wide peak at 2q = 24.7° which indicates the amorphous nature of the silica particles. The results of the performed characteristics confirm the synthesis of silica nanopowder with the size of less than 25 nm. The EDX spectrum shows that only Si and O elements are present in the structure and no impurities are visible. The contact angle between water droplet and thin films was measured and the effect of different synthesis parameters on the contact angle was studied. Among the studied polymers and solvents, the most hydrophobicity was obtained using TMCS polymer and xylene solvent. The optimized sample has a maximum contact angle of 150.8°.
Conclusion: The synthesized thin films have superhydrophobic properties and the method used in this research can be developed for use in industrial applications.

Abstract
This paper aims to study the tribological and electrochemical properties of the CrN/AlCrN nano-layer deposited on H13 tool steel. Arc physical technique was employed to deposit multilayer coating. X-ray diffraction technique, thermionic and field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy have been used to determine the characteristics of the samples. To study the samples' wear behavior, coating adhesion, and surface hardness, reciprocating wear test, Rockwell-C test, and microhardness Vickers tester were employed, respectively. The measured values of the coefficient of friction and the calculated wear rates showed that the CrN/AlCrN multilayer coating has a much higher wear resistance than the uncoated sample. The coefficient of the friction of the coated sample was 0.53 and that of the uncoated sample was 0.78. Moreover, the wear rate of the coated H13 steel was about 127 times lower than the bare H13 steel sample. The results obtained from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization tests demonstrated that the corrosion current density of the H13 steel sample was 8 μA/cm2 and that of the CrN/AlCrN multilayer-coated sample was 3 μA/cm2. In addition, the polarization resistance of the treated and the substrate specimens was estimated at 4.2 and 2.7 kΩ.cm2, respectively.

Abstract
The principal goal of this research is to produce a CrN/Cu multilayer coating and a CrN single-layer
coating and also compare their electrochemical and antibacterial behavior. In this investigation, the coatings were
applied to the stainless steel substrate by cathodic arc evaporation a sub-division of physical vapor deposition
(CAE-PVD). The present phases were characterized and the thickness of the coatings was measured using X-ray
diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. Rockwell-C tester was
used to evaluate the adhesion quality. Also, to evaluate the mechanical properties of the coatings such as modulus
of elasticity and hardness, a nanoindentation test was used and the indentation effect and coating topography were
evaluated using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Studying the electrochemical behavior of the coatings was done
using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) tests in Ringer's
solution. The results of EIS tests showed that the CrN coating had higher polarization resistance in comparison to
the CrN/Cu coating and an increasing trend of polarization resistance related to both coatings was identified by
rising the time of immersion. Also, using the PDP curves, the CrN and CrN/Cu coating current densities were
estimated at 1.835×10-8 and 2.088×10-8, respectively. The antibacterial activity of CrN and CrN/Cu coatings was
evaluated by the spot-inoculation method. The results of the antibacterial test indicated that compared to CrN
coating, CrN/Cu coating had a better impact on the control of the bacteria growth.

Abstract
In this study, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and fullerene Indene-C60 multi-adducts (ICxA) were blended to create a formulation as a solution and thin films, which were prepared under ambient conditions. The optical properties of various compositional ratios were studied using UV-Visible absorbance and photoluminescence (Pl) measurements. The energy gaps of the prepared thin films and solutions were determined, and their values increased with increasing fullerene ratio because of the isolation of P3HT chains from their neighbors. Intensity ratio (IC=C/IC-C) with a small value in addition to a low value of full width at high maximum (FWHM) of Raman spectra are associated with increased conformation and high aggregation of composition. Furthermore, according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) results the 1:0.8 and 1:0.6 ratios have the largest crystallite sizes in comparison to the other ratios. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels for blends by electrochemical measurements were determined, which are sandwiched between those of the pure materials. In ambient conditions, binary organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) at different ratios of the photoactive layer were evaluated. The device with a ratio of 1:0.6 had the best performance, with power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.21 %, open circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.53 V, short circuit current density (JSC) of 5.71 mA.cm-2, and fill factor (FF) of 39.5 % at a small Vloss of 1.39 V.

Abstract
Friction stir additive manufacturing (FSAM) is a variant of sheet lamination additive manufacturing used to produce large, near-net-shaped 3D parts. Unlike traditional friction stir lap welding, FSAM introduces a new plate to one that is already joined, with the effective area limited to the nugget zone. The present study focuses on exploring the microstructure and microhardness around the nugget zone in a five-plate AA 7075-T651 laminate synthesized at 1000 rpm and 35 mm/min. Microhardness increased vertically in the weldment NZ, reaching 143 HV in the top layer with 2.0 μm fine equiaxed grains. The grains on the advancing and retreating sides were coarser compared to the nugget zone. A W-shaped microhardness profile appeared across layer interfaces. These findings contribute significantly to advancing the FSAM technique, particularly in manufacturing multi-layered, multi-pass laminates.
